Solar panels in Finland
Solar panels generate electricity for the building’s own use. Connecting them to the house wiring is electrical work, and the local grid company has to be notified about the system.
Lämpöopas lists 97 companies across 24 cities, and 58 of them carry a Tukes register entry.

Who may install it
Connecting the system to the building’s electrical installation is electrical work: only an electrical contractor entered in the Tukes contractor register, with a named person in charge of electrical work, may do it. The register entry is public and can be checked before ordering.

The household tax credit is available only if the company that did the work was in the prepayment register at the moment the invoice was paid. If it was not, no credit is given at all — not even when the work was subcontracted to a registered company. Checking is the payer’s duty, and the register entry is public in YTJ.

What the numbers say
Detached houses had a PV system installed in about 30,000 cases in 2023 and in about 6,500 in 2025.
Total solar capacity in Finland is still growing strongly, but that growth is industrial-scale: household installation volumes have fallen every year since the 2023 peak.
Demand peaks: April, May and June. The timing is what installers say, not a recorded statistic.

Can I claim the household tax credit on the installation?
Household tax credit: 35% of the labour share of a company invoice, up to €1,600 per person per year, with a €150 own share (Verohallinto, 10 February 2026). The government has proposed raising this to 40% and €2,100 for 2026–2027, retroactively from 1 January 2026 (HE 113/2026 vp, Eduskunta, 11 June 2026). Parliament has not passed the bill, and the tax administration still writes about it in the conditional (Verohallinto, 16 June 2026).

How much do solar panels produce in Finland?
Across Finland the range is 776–940 kWh/kWp, and it is not a clean north-south gradient: coastal Oulu out-yields inland Tampere and Jyväskylä, because cloud climatology matters more than latitude (PVGIS 5.3 (EC JRC), 3 September 2026). What decides the payback is not the yield but how much of it you use yourself: in a detached house that is 50–80% (Motiva, 30 December 2025).
